These are designed to give children more experiences and to give children an opportunity to choose to learn something of interest to them. Teachers pick topics that they are interested in teaching and students then get to choose what they are excited about learning. All the adults in the building participate so that we are able to keep the groups small. This is yet another way to have adults and students connect in the building. Students K-2 works separately from 3-5. In K-2 we give them only 10 choices. They pick three they would like, and then they are assigned to a group based on space available. For 3-5 they get about 40 choices. They pick their favorite 5 and get assigned the same way. During their special class we show a Power Point of the cluster choices the students get to choose. The system is easy and takes little time to get together. After they choose, the student is then assigned to an enrichment cluster. In order to avoid any confusion, on the first Enrichment Cluster day, each child is "tagged" with a label on which their name and destination are printed. The Friday schedule is adjusted (for six, consecutive weeks), to allow an hour for clusters from 1:30-2:30. The students absolutely love this time, and are given the opportunity to do something that is self- selected and of interest to them.
