
Russell Maedgen is the principal of Lake Travis Middle School, a position he’s held since July 2008.
Born in Austin, Texas, Mr. Maedgen earned a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Texas and a master’s degree in Education Administration from the University of Virginia.
He has 19 years of experience in public education. Mr. Maedgen started his career as a special education teacher at Barton Junior High in the Hays Consolidated Independent School District. He then moved to Charlottesville, Virginia where he served as a special education teacher at Central Elementary School. After completing his graduate degree, he served as an assistant principal at Fluvanna Middle School and then Director of Alternative Education and Federal Programs for the Fluvanna County School Division in Palmyra, Virginia.
Mr. Maedgen has been employed at LTISD since his return to the Austin area in 2003. He has served as assistant principal at both Lake Travis Middle School and Lake Travis High School. He was selected as the 2007-2008 Texas Association of Secondary School Principals ‘Assistant Principal of the Year.’
In his current capacity as LTMS principal, Mr. Maedgen is charged with promoting a partnership between teachers, students, parents, and community that strives to provide an exemplary educational experience and address the needs of the developing middle school students.
