Marco Alvarado is the Director of Communications, Media & Community Relations.  He is charged with developing and fostering effective, two-way communication between the school district and its internal and external constituencies; creating awareness and building support of school district programs, services, events, and activities; and promoting student achievement by utilizing all effective means of communication. 

 

Born in Laredo, Texas, Marco earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Broadcast Journalism from Texas Tech University followed by a Master of Arts degree in Strategic Communication and Leadership from Seton Hall University.  He has 18 years of experience in the fields of journalism and public relations having worked as a news producer for the CBS television affiliate in Laredo and as public information officer for the City of Laredo and the Texas Department of Transportation-Laredo District, respectively.  Prior to joining Lake Travis ISD in October 2007, Marco served as Executive Director for Communications at the Laredo Independent School District.

 

The Department has four employees who are committed to communicating the mission, goals, and challenges of the District and its campuses by providing accurate and timely information via several outlets, including the District's website, School Matters (community e-newsletter via Constant Contact), SchoolMessenger (urgent/weather-related/crisis communication) and social media tools such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

Additionally, Lake Travis ISD's media policy requires that all media-related requests be made through the Communications, Media, & Community Relations Department.
