Eighth Graders Collaborate With the Butterfly Project in Language Arts
Eighth graders at Hudson Bend Middle School showcased their creativity and their love of learning with the Butterfly Project, a colorful and poignant showcase of art pieces they created based on poetry they studied that commemorated children who passed in the Holocaust. All of the students’ butterflies are currently displayed in Hudson Bend’s sky bridge for faculty and visitors to view.
To prepare the eighth graders for the Butterfly Project, students learned about the events surrounding WWII with a Holocaust Webquest, digital timelines, QR codes, and historical allegories in children’s literature. Eighth graders also read Anne Frank’s The Diary of a Young Girl and explored an interactive online annex simulation before viewing the cities Anne Frank’s family visited through Google Earth.
The eighth graders’ butterflies may be viewed through the end of December.

Students Learn Together in Team Teen
At Hudson Bend Middle School eighth grade students in Teen Leadership have started mentoring sixth graders through a new school club, Team Teen. Students in Team Teen meet twice a month to discuss how to be a successful student as well as how to thrive in middle school.
Team Teen was established to introduce sixth graders at Hudson Bend to student leaders on campus and to help those sixth graders create and maintain meaningful relationships with upperclassmen.
So far this year, the eighth grade mentors have discussed honesty, integrity, and gratitude with their mentees by using Kahoot, short video clips, and character-building games.
